New 911's Are Huge
I was driving around last Sunday with my wife. Happened to go by a Porsche dealer so I pulled in and parked next to some new 911's. When compared to our old cars these new are on steroids. It seems all cars are getting larger and larger these days. My old BMW e39 5 series is as large as the new 3 series BMW.

I saw a BMW Z3 for the first time in a long time the other day and looked like a 7/8ths scale car all of the sudden.

It was very eye opening when I parked my 911 sc next to a 2008 Porsche Boxster. It made my 911 look like a kids toy

If I remember correctly my 1972 911 was the same size as my Cayman.

I hear rumors of a new 928 that Porsche may introduce. It's not needed - the 991 is the new 928.

Going to the Paris airport 20 years ago in a taxi I recall some heavy traffic with a Boxster nearby.
The Boxster was one of the larger cars on the road at the time, it's length quite a bit longer than most of the four doors. If you think a modern Porsche is a bit large on US streets, in Europe they actually stick out. At least 20 years ago, today I'm not so sure about that. Repost: Any Alpine A110 fans here I think it's a mistake to do a side by side of new and old so-called retro cars because the new stuff always looks obese because of the safety considerations. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/f6xl7I/ ![]() http://www.autotribute.com/46116/10-cool-facts-about-new-alpine-a110-sports-car/ ![]()

I think the new 911 is actually an inch longer than a 928.

The older cars are about the size of a Honda Fit.

Along with the larger size is way better handling, steering and braking and speed. The 911 was based on the 356 which was based on the Type 1 Bug. Thank God the 911 got bigger!

It would be kind of interesting to see what the factory would come up with if using a similar form factor to the air cooled 911 but with modern technology of the newer cars.

Having both, still prefer air cooled.

Compare an original Boxster to the current one. It has porked out too.
New 911's are rather like a rear-engined German Camry! |

I was looking up curb weights of the cars I own the other day because I'm thinking about getting a lift. The SC weighs slightly less than my daughter's Honda Civic.

Consumers like big cars.
When I see modern cars with the driver inside them, it always strikes me as almost comical. People look like they're 3/4 scale to my (admittedly old) eye.
