Carrera 3.0 top end differences from SC
I'm trying to learn what might have be different on the carrera 3.0 to allow the 7200 revs.
As I understand it, the cams were the same and the valve size too. Anything else that mad 7200 safe for this motor compared to an SC?

'76 & 77 C3 used the 2.7 crank and rods, same as the '72-73 911 2.4S & 911 2.7RS

Bill,
What did that do? From what I'm hearing they used 95mm pistons?

I don't beleive any CIS engine was reving to 7200.
A Carrea RS 3.0, which had the old S cams and a plunger type fuel injection. It would rev to 7200. I'm betting a Carrera 3.0 was redlined at 6300 like an SC. Jerry

Inch by inch the Carrera 3.0 emerges as something unique versus its younger brother the SC. Thanks Bill!

In youthful enthusiasm, I replaced my stock rev-limiting rotor in my '76 2.7 liter (bone stock engine) with a 7300 rpm rotor from an earlier car. I would hit the rev limit coming out of turn 7 at Road Atlanta.
Was it a good idea? Doubtful. Did it do any harm? Nope.

redline
Redline was 6800.Big difference was the crank weighed about 5 lbs.less so point A to B was quicker which is where most races are won.Ciao

Here is a pic of my 2.7L crank. notice the counterweights are thinner in addition to the smaller diameter journals.
![]() Here is a 3.0 crank for comparo: ![]() Thanks for the info Bill. I had seen 7200 mentioned elsewhere but I'll trust your 6800.

The Euro 930-10 SC is also rated at 6800 +/- 200 rpm....at least for the 82/83 model years.

the interesting thing is the catless cars w/ that motor govern it w/ a distributor rotor which cuts the spark, just like the C3 the same year SCs which have cats govern the 6500+/- limit w/ a fuel pump cutoff

Funny everyone here seems to think a lighter crank enables higher revs?

In my 2.7 with webers, mod40 cams, 9.8:1 pistons, RS advance curve, I run to 7300. I made this change so I wouldn't have to shift to 3rd in the hairpin at a track I used to race it. It was worth about 2 seconds for me.

Bill - what direction does the rotor turn in a C3? Is it the same as a SC?
I guess I could just go check on my early Turbo 3.0

It rotates clockwise which would be opposite an SC motor
