Knock sensors on an SC
Is there an easy way to install knock sensors on an SC engine? What is the common way to do it? I'm wondering if it would be simple to install a bracket between cylinders such as the ones in the 964...

Yes, you can install 964 knock bridge.
Another option is at the base of the post that supports the CIS throttle linkage console. This is the base of Cylinder 3. Trim the Al spacer down by the thickness of your knock sensor.

Check out my thread on an AEM EFI conversion on an SC, where I added the knock bridges and two knock sensors. A few members chimed in on other places to put a knock sensor. In post 18 I go into detail on how to do it.
Another AEM EFI Conversion

After doing my EFI conversion over 4 years ago, I came across you post and bought the the Bosch knock sensors. They are still in the box ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It worked out for me since I was removing the intake to go EFI. Otherwise there is a bit of disassembly before you can do it. The method outlined allows this to be done with the engine in the car.
JJ your car looks very similar to mine except that I am silver. I also have a scissor lift like you. It has been very handy!

For sure, the best buy after the car itself.
Btw, I'll be going SC as well. I got a full SOK kit but the twin turbine housing need to be R&O.

Thanks very much for the information. Bolting the knock bridge into the head seems a good solution. Although doing it without removing the engine seems far beyond what I can do! Mounting a single sensor at the base of cylinder 3 seems much more straightforward. Do you have any comment about the relative performance of the two solutions?
Thanks for sharing the image, it makes it very clear. Btw, is it a temperature sensor on the cylinder fin? |
