Rotors spaced differently?
Yesterday I found a couple washers fixed between my front brake caliper and the axle on one side of the car. I was wondering if this was stock - it didn't seem so. Today, I measuerd the distance from the caliper mounts to the rotors on the right and found that the measurement was different by about 3mm from the left. Maybe these washers were trying to shim the caliper into position. Is there any other reason why this measurement would differ from one side to the other?
I haven't checked the wheel bearings, but each side rotates smoothly. Any thoughts? The following image shows the measurement I took. ![]()

I have a sister to yours ('76 C3) and have spent at lot of time messing w/ the brakes. Something is not right w/ your car. There should be only 1 spring washer under each M12x1.5x35 caliper bolt. Both sides should be the same.

I agree, something isn't right. What I don't know is where the problem is. Does this differnce seem like a wheel bearing problem? If one side were'nt assembled properly, that would cause the whole rotor to be off.

If a strut was replaced that would do it. There is no problem IMO shimming the caliper.

Have the rotors been turned down. This would make a difference in the area you have marked.

Another guess is that a rotor from a 924/944 (turbo?) or ??? might have been installed. What year is yours? 21 or 24 mm thick rotors? Stock calipers?

It's a missing distance ring. I pulled apart the two front axles last night. The shimmed side was missing this ring which goes around the axle stub and holds the inner bearing in place.
Anyone know the part number? I can't find it anywhere.
