Remove Clock - Install CHT ??

Will the VDO Cylinder Head Temp gauge directly replace the factory clock?

I'm wondering about this too...but I think the VDO gauge is much smaller in diameter than the clock.

Has anyone installed a direct air vent in the clock outlet? I know SmartRacing sells these for $200 and I am wondering what you get for the $$?

i think the vdo cht for 914's is a 2" and they sell a adapter ring to fit the 2 and 3/8ths hole in stock consoles. the 911 clock is 3" plus. modify fit!

you could do both. the oil pressure warning light (red lens), with the a cyl. head temp guage set into that lens. max

i have the same winter tan. the dual purpose gauge looks excellent.

put a 6-way switch on + 5 more thermocouples and you could check every cylinder.

i have to take my clock out and shake it if i want it to start back up.

How about taking a fuel/oil level dual gauge and having one of the VDO gauge shops swap the guts for a CHT and maybe a voltmeter? Same diameter--would fit and look correct.

Wayne's got the CHT gauge listed as 2 1/16". I'll look into the custome set-up. Sure would be the easiest way to mount the CHT though. Unless of course Maxnine11 can fabricate the described idiot ligt and gauge.

I replaced my clock with the 2" VDO CHT gauge. I found that the plastic containers of cake icing/frosting fit perfectly into the clock hole. So after eating all of the icing, I cut a hole in the bottom of the container for the CHT gauge to slide into, and then cut off most of the length of the container. I think I wrapped some tape around the container for a snug fit into the clock hole. After some black spray paint, it looks factory to me.

I guess this adapter may not be for everyone, but it is cheap, and you get to eat a whole container of icing. Unfortunately, my camera will not take a clear picture any closer than this one.

spare switches

On a similar topic , Does anyone have any useful suggestions for what to do with spare dash switches when they become obsolete...for instance since fitting a C2 bodykit I decided to lose the rear windsdreen wiper so that switch is spare

Check out these babies. Westach Will custom build you a guage, and then you can use the VDO adapter to install it in the clock opening. The prices arent to bad (if you get the non FAA certified gauges)

So I'll search for a donor gauge to build the adapter. It would be nice to keep the factory black bezel and glass and view the CHT gauge in the inside. Detail to follow.
