Can someone please tell me what the "SC" in 911 SC or 356 SCstands for?!!
I have a bet going with a friend. A lot of people think the SC stands for Super Carrera, but I belive this is wrong. Does anyone know the actual German words that SC stands for?

Why would they make a Carrera that is better than the super Carrera? I think that people are just assuming that is what it is called. Or that the Porsche Marketing said thats what it stood for, but in actuallity, the SC originally stood for something else.

damit! Well that may be the case for the 911 SC, but the 356 SC I bet didn't stand for Super Carrera, so it still may be a draw...

In the case of the 356 SC ... it meant Super engine (95 hp DIN) in the 356 'C' series ['64 -'65] ... in other words ... just Super 'C' ...
BTW, there was no 356 Carrera in '64 - '65, so don't even think about making that comparison ... or derivation of SC!!!

It's a little known factory secret that back in the late 70s, they knew that there was a Motronic 3.2 on the horizon and as not to confuse the new 3.0 with the 3.0 Carrera they called the new model the "SC". Nobody was allowed to even think the real meaning of this acronym, which was... Slower Carrera...  [flameproof off]  I'm on the SCWDP hitlist now!

So Adam, jokes aside, do you agree that SC stands for Super Carrera?
And Early S Man, thats my whole point, that the 356 SC did not mean Super Carrera. I think its just a marketing scam at most, from the factory SC did not mean Super Carrera (hanging on to a thread here

Strange that they would use the English word for Super instead of the German word don't you think? Shouldn't it be "UC"?

Another reason why I think that the SC was just adopted as meaning Super Carrera, in America only maybe. From the Factory, and in Germany, I bet it means something else, or maybe nothing at all. Just like S, and T, and E in 911s dont actualy mean anything (I dont think)

I used to think SC meant Super Carrera, but these days I'm not so sure. Maybe it's just a continuation of the 911 S terminology ('74-'77) with C having some significant meaning, either internally or for the motor. Maybe the new 3.0 (not the Carrera 3.0 motor) was designated "C" by the factory.
Then meaning.. 911 SC = 911S with "C" Powerplant...

Thanks Adam, you are keeping my hope alive.
Did the S, T, and E, ever actually mean something. I know everyone says that S means super, but did Porsche actually intend it to mean that? Just like with Audis. the S4 doesnt mean super or sport or anything, people just know its better (obviously stolen from Porsche History)

Carrera is taken from the Carrera PanAmerica, a famous race back in the day.
The Carrera used to designate the best engine that was put into a Porsche for that model year. As in the 924 Turbo Carrera or whatever that thing was.

With S, E and T, I think they did have meanings.
E stood for "Einspritz" (not sure of the spelling) which essentially means "Injection". Some of our Pelicans with closer connections to the Fatherland will be able to confirm what I am saying. I don't know about S, but I'm sure it's something akin to "Sport". Anyone know what T means?

At least today, "Super" is quite common in the German vocabulary, sorry to tell ya. I've heard plenty 'o drunk Germans chanting "so super, so super..." (pronounced zo zupah) Don't know about 25 years ago, though.
I thought SC meant "So Cool" or "Southern Cal"

Well they used "Super" back in the days of the 356 Super.
But I don't think the S stands for Super, or the C stands for Carrera, it either means nothing, or something completey else. Why would there be a Super Carrera, and then a few years later a Carrera?
