Quite a few updates and pics from time in LA last week.
Positioned rear brakes/lines as Tyson needed to weld in new brake line mount tabs which were removed while modifying the trailing arm attach points.

While the chassis is back at ProMotorsports being built, some finishing touches still taking place to the front bars and various small parts.

The large painted bar will pair with a flat floor and splitter.

The smaller bar in grey primer has been fitted and prepped for paint this week. It will be used for Motorkhana/hillclimbs etc, or any other tracks where i need more ground clearance!

Old wing - new wing!
 
This carbon banana wing will be removed and sold to make way for the new one...
This came fitted on car but I already have a similar one in Australia so don't need two of the same!

Just picked up the new 71" APR which will go on.
Barely fitted in the rental car even with the rear seats folded down.

While at the APR office/warehouse I was able to talk with the guys and see how they are made.
The section below shows the two bonded carbon ribs (no aluminiuim spar required)
By using vacuum formed pre preg they can make these very light and strong.

71" is a huge wing.
i'm still learning 911 aero. will you be able to run a large enough splitter up front to balance the car? (without looking like a WTAC car or a transformer)
seems like a ton of rear downforce/negative lift.

Hey I’m learning too, and experimenting with set up is half the fun...

While this wing has potential to produce huge downforce numbers, can run at very low AoA and not get much of a drag penalty as its about 8:1 L/D ratio. Will do some real world testing, but should actually clean up the flow at the rear of the car and not increase the drag vs standard with no wing (while getting some benefits for neg lift and high speed stability)
or
if I’m lucky (and theory convertes to actual) could even improve drag and generate a faster top speed...
Will need to run it and test. Agree the front is more challenging to balance but found on previous car its amazing what fitting a flat floor does when combined with a decent splitter. So no current plan to have canards etc and look like a WTAC car.

Ill post the data for this particular wing. Recall 60-120mph at zero AoA its only producing 50-100lbs of downforce and wing drag penalty was like 10lbs or less.

Running a 95mm dish wheel so removed the standard Momo and fitted my short NRG adapter.

i always forget how much of an effect a flat floor can have as i've never had a car with one. the numbers on that wing with a low AoA are awesome....and with a high AoA, huge!
i'm excited to see how this car develops as you get it on track!

Talking with the guys from APR, this is like their 3rd gen wing profile and developed with full CFD, hence the great L/D figures.
Lots of wings out there but i was looking for specifically one with low drag. The car is being built light, but it won't be big HP (just a 964 spec 3.6)
Most of the effort and development is going into the suspension/handling.

Plan to run this wing on the GT3 style ducktail (below from GT racing) which has now finished prep and paint ready to test fit.

this makes me happy. it's how i'm building my streetcar...albeit with an SC 3.0 motor instead of a 3.6.
power doesn't fix everything the way a lot of manufacturers and enthusiasts would have you believe.

So are you running a full carbon decklid & wing? If so do you have a rough weight of it?

I was thinking about upgrading my HEAVY GT2 style wing & steel decklid to full Carbon and adding extensions on the wing like yours, so I can see out the rear window!

What's the plan for headlights? Noticed you don't have buckets in the fenders. Just going to use covers?

That's how all my track cars have been: low weight and relatively low power. It really is track dependent though. I was racing in a Weight/HP class and on the technical tracks the light cars had the edge, but the faster tracks with long straights and hills the newer heavier cars had a big advantage.

DHE11- you should shake it down at a POC event before shipping it across the ocean.

Yes, figure i will always find someone with more horsepower (or a newer car ) that can go faster in a straight line.

Yes, the wing is full carbon construction. The airfoil section itself is very light, probably a few pounds (i haven稚 weighed it) The deck lid is fibreglass, which is much lighter than steel. Not enough gains for the extra expense in going for full carbon for the decklid.

I spent that money where it matters more on the suspension and lighter wheels.

For most of the time will be fitting covers.

I am actually going to look for some buckets and fit some headlights for night or rally events where i need them. I beleive aftermarket Jeep LED lamps are the same size and fit VW beetle /early Porsche ok (and are about 1/10th the price ive seen for the Porsche LED retrofit options)

If anyone has any spare headlight buckets and rings, please let me know as I知 interested...
