911 sc engine

Hey everyone,

Looking for advice.

I’m the third owner after my father on a 3.0 911sc

I’m aware that the engine is the second engine in the car from knowledge the original engine was damaged in its early life and replaced under insurance.

It has no service history and I want to certify the engine or have it confirmed that the engine In it now is a 3.0 litre same as the original.

Is it a compression and leakdiwn test.

I’ve had it for sale and with it being second engine and no books no one really wants to know about it.

Info on how to interpret engine type and serial numbers can be found here: Simon's Porsche 911 SC Site

Location of the numbers is shown on this thread: where can I find my engine and transmission number?

Serial number is on a vertical surface at the lower right of the fan. Engine type is stamped on a horizontal surface near the serial number.

Post the numbers you find and we can go from there.

Mark

I can see 93010 which look like original numbers on the engine

Then I can see another number that has been punched onto it which I believe was done by VICTORIA police when this second engine was fit to the car.

This photo was on the right side of the fan onto log the chain housing

Different country, different market. I really wouldn't know. Cars, all cars, are a lot cheaper here.

So you are selling the car and deserting us

different strokes for differnet folks! haha

I'm very much in 2 minds.

Part of me wants to move it on to someone who can do more with it and enjoy it..another part of me wants to hold onto it from what ive gone through with it.

Selling it would replenish (that I didn't have at the time) finances that I poured into it trying to get it running again before my dad passed away.. would help my young family move forward.

So heres the conundrum. Kick myself for them being worth 3 times as much in 10 years? yet still struggle to sell because of its lets say impurities (No books, not the original engine)

Or sell it now and get what I can for it.. move on...

Engine number is not there at all,

Just the stamped number that it looks like the Vic police stamped when registering the engine.
And very badly mind you hence the
V being Vic and P for police

Some detailed engine pic's might allow one of the guys to identify what model of engine it is by fuel lines, number of wires coming off the AAV or the other bits. Subtle details that someone in the know will be able to identify it.

Given the metal CIS fuel lines and single vacuum line off the distributor it is likely a 1982 or 83 ROW 3.0 L engine. Someone has definitely performed the Carrera tensioner upgrade. Looks clean.

It has got the the oil fed tensioners and it is uber clean spent a lot of heart cleaning it up..gutted my dad didn’t get to see it.

It is..and according to the VIN an Aus delivered 82 911sc 3.0 I just have no certificates or papers on this second engine that was put in under the insurance.

That’s Why I was going to get a compression and leakdown test done on it for anyone requiring proof.

Engine identification.......

Please post the ID numbers of the following:

Alternator fan housing
Intake runners (-2R or -4R)
WUR
FD
AFM
Ignition distributor
Throttle body ID on aluminum tag
Cam tower housing number

These information will help you identify what type engine you have. Keep us posted.

Tony

I would contact that police department or the DMV equivalent down under and get that record.

Intake runner #4 appears to have taken a beating !
