Thanks,

Everyone i have come across on this website is very very friendly and helpful.
I'm gonna be on here alot.

tryan 02-19-2003 05:33 PM

the drawings and info here don't show an 'enrichment solenoid.'

post a close up of your pump.

tryan 02-19-2003 05:41 PM

this page (on page 4 edit , sorry page 5.) states that the 70 pump does not have the enrichment cicuit. try to identify your pump from these variations.

you might have to pack some ether when you leave the pub.:)

look for 2(two) solenoids on the front of the pump.

AndrewWolfeUK 02-19-2003 05:52 PM

Hi again,

Here are the pictures you want i think!
P.S. What time is it over there?

AndrewWolfeUK 02-19-2003 05:57 PM

It looks like the single solenoid version, what do you think?

tryan 02-19-2003 06:08 PM

yup. you need to find some proper size stacks for that motor. if you find some magnesium stacks i trade you for my plastic ones. you could just modify your existing stacks to the later/safer style cold start system. you have the solenoid. get some fuel lines and drill bits and go to town.

ether is not good for the vavles, but 15 minutes of cranking would piss me off. (wd-40 works also, but your talkin' flamibility issues now)

AndrewWolfeUK 02-19-2003 06:23 PM

Hi,

Will this work or will i burn?

tryan 02-19-2003 06:27 PM

toast. just kidding. you need six of them with equal flow. i sent you a pm.

AndrewWolfeUK 02-19-2003 06:51 PM

Hi mate

I havent got a pm form you? where do you think its at?

Paul Thomas 02-19-2003 08:49 PM

I am amazed, that among other things, no one has noticed that the thermostat is on up-side-down.

Also, I dont want to be rude or overly pesimistic, but i am having a hard time believing that THAT motor pic was taken from the back of that slant nosed, headlight in the bumper, RUF wheeled 911?

Make me a believer, take a pic of the whole back end of the car with the deck lid open, and i will be more than happy to detail a cool way to have your cold start built into a set of K&N watershields.

Less so for Andi (who has a later style pump) then for other readers, here's the enrichment solenoid that I was describing. Basically I ran a wire from the "Start" circuit (that powers the starter rather then the ignition) to an previously unused switch on the dash. From there I ran a wire to the back and attached it to the connection screw here:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MFI Pumps.jpg

Be sure to keep the existing wire on the solenoid also. This won't help Andi since his pump doesn't have the start solenoid. So here I'll defer to those folks with the later style pumps.

AndrewWolfeUK 02-20-2003 06:47 AM

O.K. Here's one for the disbelievers when i get her out tomorrow i get one of the rear end, just gonna have to trust me for now.
Anyway got some other toys to play with at the mo, look to the far left you can just see the twin turbo zx i took a deposit on last week,http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/RESTPORKA.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...NTVIEWwdcj.jpg

Any how its still a ***** to start and its not getting any warmer here, the storage tank in the roof froze solid the other week.

Sorry I was not able to get back before now. P-Thomas is right, the hot air thermostat is upside down. Andi, it looks like someone put the '73 MFI pump on a '70 engine, which as you know know does not have the enrichment solenoid on the pump as the earlier models did. I think you are going to have to rig up a system like P-Thomas did if you want to get better cold starting, or go with a '70 MFI pump.

AndrewWolfeUK 02-20-2003 07:03 AM

HI again Kirt,
O.K. I think i will design a different air box for the car then.

What do the pipes on the back and under the air box do?

AndrewWolfeUK 02-20-2003 07:04 AM

Oh and what sort of diameter do i want the nossles?

tkrefeld 02-20-2003 07:52 AM

How's your choke cable (lever between seats)?

AndrewWolfeUK 02-20-2003 07:58 AM

if i'm correct it doesnt have a choke cable, the one in question is just a throttle cable.

i think!

tkrefeld 02-20-2003 02:27 PM

Same thing sorta correct??

If it is not in proper position for cold starting he will have the same symptons right?

Paul Thomas 02-20-2003 02:44 PM

Ok Andi,
Sorry about my disbelief but there is some serious BS on this board sometimes. First thing, that thing with the paper hose running to it is a thermostat that leans out the mixture as the car warms up. It is on up-side-down. Unhook the hose, remove the top and bottom screws on the thermostat and flip it over. The hose will go on much easier now. DO NOT take off the end cap.

You can rig a cold start like mine that works like a charm with the following.

1- Push button switch
3-3mm (L) vacuum hose fittings
5- (T) hose fittings, same size
1 meter of 3mm fuel of vacuum or fuel line
Enough wire to go from the underside of your dash through the tunnel to the cold start solenoid on top of the filter assembly.

Mount the button on the dash within reach.
Get a set of K&N, or the like, watershield aircleaners. These will work great with the manifolds on your motor, you will just have to cut away a little of the left side shield to fit around the left side fuel lines and the barometric cell (round thing on top of the pump). Drill a hole dead center, in each shield above each velocity stack so that the fuel squirts straight down into the port and use the fittings accordingly.

I wired my button to the stereo power wire that only comes on with the ignition. Push gas pedal down to open throttle plates, start cranking and hold the button down for a second or two. My car fires right up.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Paul
