Question Mobilgas Pegasus Proper Placement

Hey guys, I am going in put the red Mobilgas pegasus stickers on my car and was wondering about proper placement. I was thinking of installing them at the rear of the front fender as I think that is correct, right? Does anyone have the exact placement (or something close that looks period correct)? Anybody have pictures of them installed - especially on a silver car? Even a 356 - they do look cool on either car. Thanks for the help.

I've seen so many different orientations of the Pegasus! I was worried about the same thing when I put them on my wife's car. I tried taping them up at all different angles. I wound up placing them where the upper edge of the wing was parallel with the ground. Looked good to me.

Top edge - the line from eye to nose - of the horses' head is parallel to the ground...

Hope this helps.

PS - they aren't placed right on my car either...

cheers

Don't know about the placement, but 'homemade 911' is correct about the head being parallel to the ground. I worked for Mobil(chemical division) during the 90's, and the pegasus is always oriented that way.

Thanks guys - I appreciate your responses. I am inclined to put them higher on the fender like Ted's car. I would still love to see more photos if anyone has them.

I also think mine are a bit smaller than those on Ted's car, although my vinyl guy can cut them to any size you want.

What is the story with the cool Pegusas? Was Mobil a major sponsor of Porsche for a significant period?
Would it be acceptable to use the Pegasus in a different color. I would like to add a bit of sport/flare/racey style to my car, something subtle and I like this image. I would like to know the story behind it though.
My problem is, my paint color in copper brown metallic and it seems a little hard to match with something like this. Could you do the Pegasus in white/silver?

Of course you could so the pegasus in any color, but that would be like doing a Shell crest in blue, or a Gulf crest in yellow and green

I think a Shell emblem would look good on copper brown metallic

Jeff,
Like that sheet of transfers. I could not find their web page on Google. Guess I'll just call and hope they know what I'm after ;-)

It's a pretty old sheet, Mark. I'm not even sure they are still around. I got mine (on the blue '72 above) from GT Racing.

Jeff,
Yeah, I called them and he barely remembered it. Long gone. I sent an email to Mikez who makes great graphics.

Thanks

I got mine from TRE but Mike Z also has them as well as other cool stickers. I started a thread when I was looking to put them on my car. I finally got them but they looked really bad. I placed them crooked so I had to take them off.
I recently got another set from TRE and will use this thread to get a better idea on placement. Looking at Jeffs picture gives my an idea on how they should be placed.

Here is the old thread:

Here is a pic from the first time around. I think it will look good in the center of the fender area posted if that makes sense.
