engine serial number

can someone be so kind to decipher the model number these two blocks are connected to?
i believe they are early 70's or late 60's one is 3451403, and the other is 6196276. i would appreciate it greatly.

6196276 decodes to a 1969 911T, US model, Karmann coupe engine. Type 901/16, 110 hp.

Cannot find 3451403 in my source, but the number sequence, begining with a 3, indicates a 1968, but if it was, the third digit should be 8, not 5. Are you certain the number is correct? If it was a typo and the number was 6451403, then it's a 75 US Carrera (same as 911 S.). If not, I'm stumped, but djpateman will probably know.

From 1969 on, the engine numbers started with 6, and before 1968 the numbers began with 9. The initial number, 3 in your serial number, indicates a 130hp engine. If it was a 2, it would be 110hp, and if was a 4, a 160hp engine. That's all I can decipher from my source.

Thank you for the reply. I tried to post the picture of it so you might be able to determine the numbers better. There are 7 numbers listed. I am absolutely certain about the 3, 4, (the 3rd number MIGHT be a 6?, pretty sure it is NOT an 8- thought at first blush it was a 5), am also certain about the balance- 1403. I hope that this helps! Thanks for the update.

Still, it was only engines produced in 1968 that began with the sequence you posted and, therefore, the third digit has to be an 8. This, according to my usual source but I haven't been able to find any other source that identifies a 345XXXX engine. If you are certain the third digit is not 8, then I'm stumped.

No.

For 1968 only, the first digit determined the engine designation. "2" would have identified a "T", 110 hp type 901/03. You posted "3", so that decodes to a 130hp of several types that fit different models including L. A "4" would be an "S".

Can you post the type numbers? That might help narrow things down.

Even if the third digit is an 8, putting the engine number in the proper year, the second digit, the 4, is not identifiable from any source I can locate.

Is it possible for you to post a picture of the serial number?

@emcon5 is that handy chart missing some serial numbers that start with 677? mine is 6770540 and i can't find it there. Thought it was a '77 930 case and a type 930/52.
