A/C compressor
In order to work on the right side inside the engine compartment I like to get the A/C compressor out of the way without disconnecting the lines to get some more elbow room. I am planning an oil and filter change, installing new sparkplugs and engine lid strut. I have done that kind of work on other 911s before, but never on A/C equipped cars.
Is this wishful thinking or can it be done and has it been done ? any helpful advise would be greatly appreciated. The car is a 1988 Carrera Cabriolet. CHEERS ! WITT ! |

I've not done it myself, but I've seen numerous repair pics. Where the compressor is placed off to the side on a thick blanket hoses connected. Done all the time.

1) Towel over the fender
2) Roll compressor over as far as possible 3) bungie cord to the fender lip or tire to hold it in place, or it will try to flop back into the engine compartment. That will get in the way of the oil filter, and it doesn't really make a whole lot more room getting to the spark plugs...

I've done work on the RH side many times without moving the compressor.
But if you wish to do so be careful not to put too much strain on the hose fittings, you might have enough hose to move the compressor over to the left and tight it down on top of some padding.

furniture blanket worked great for me. Don't forget the disconnect the electrical connection to compressor (I think it's for the clutch)

Do you still sell the evap to comp line and comp to the lid condenser line a wee bit longer so the flop back risk is reduced if you lay the compressor on the fender? Just for a data point.
