My '85 Carrera is completely stock but I sometimes use it for track events. I have been wondering, if I remove the air-con fanbelt for the day, how much power will I gain? The friction and weight of the fanbelt, and the weight of the compressor all adds up, doesn't it?
Anybody who knows what the hp gain will be, if any? Are there any other (temporary) quick and dirty tricks I can do to my car before a track event? Apart from removing all loose weight, the only other thing I can think of is removing the air con fanbelt. |

My personal opinion is that removing the a/c fanbelt for each track event is more trouble than it's worth. Now if you could remove the weight of the entire a/c system. then that's another story...
I am assuming you do not use the a/c on the track. With the a/c off, there is very little load on the engine. Bruce

When the AC compressor is not running, the amount of drag on the belt is minimal, (it can spin easily with your hands). Not worth the trouble.

What? You don't run your AC on the track?
