Rubbing on the pressure plate with pedal down. There's an adjustable pedal stop on the floorboard to limit pedal travel. Someone also may have put an extra washer under the pivot bolt and flat return spring which is often done after machining the flywheel to keep the original geometry. If that's done with an unmachined flywheel, you don't get the proper release travel and it rubs and is hard to shift. Would have made a lot of noise when it rubbed.

Thanks Henry I will check out the pedal stop adjustment stop. I installed a new fly wheel, pressure plate and clutch a couple years ago but only about 2 thousand miles or so ago and I know there was no mark on the fork at the time.
I also never noticed any noise while depressing the clutch but will check out the adjustable stop when I get things back together.

Thanks
Mike
