Ignition switch rebuilder
Our 1975 911 is currently being started with a Phillips head screwdriver, but don't tell anybody. It appears the mechanical portion does not rotate enough to engage the contacts within the electrical portion of the switch. I suspect something is worn inside the mechanical portion. Is there anybody out there that rebuilds these?

Your post gave me a laugh only because that’s exactly how I started my car when I bought it. PO had the same problem. The screwdriver came with the car as part of the deal. It was the mechanical portion as you suspect.
I vaguely remember reading some posts with proposed fixes that didn’t work for me. In my case I replaced the ignition lock assembly. Not a fun project. You have to drill out the 2 shear bolts and remove the driver seat so you can work on your back and contorted. If you get a new one and want to keep one key for the car you’ll have to re-key the tumbler on the new assembly.

I can fix it, I also have extra ignitions for sale which I can rekey to match your car.
You don't need to drill out bolts simply take a small sharp chisel and hammer from the 6 o'clock position towards the 3 o'clock position this will loosen bolts. |

That’s right, you don’t need to drill them out. I think I did end up cutting a slot in one with a dremel so I could get better purchase.

"Tweet" on this site can rebuild and rekey to new specs. He's done work for me and I've been very pleased every time.
