distance between front struts?
Hello again,
Could I ask if someone could check some thing for me? As per a recent post my car has what I believed to be a badly fitted front wing. The gap starts off OK, then gets really tight arround the suspension top then gets far too big at the front where the wing meets the bumper. I took it to a body shop which was owned by a chap who had owned a couple of 911's before. I showed him the problem and he explained to me that on these cars sometimes the problem I was having could be caused buy the car hitting something hard with a front wheel. The result being the front suspension strut (shocker) and its mounting point is pushed inwards, thus causing the wing to pinch at that point. Apparently it's not too uncommon but is fairly easy to fix. My point (question) being could i ask if someone would measure the distance between the two front shockers on their cars to give me something to qualify my car by? I will be going to measure my car tonight. any views welcome. Many Thanks in advance. Richard

Thanks Tim,
Is that 980mm from the very middle of the top of the strut top? Rich

Rich;
What you want are the body drawings from the shop manual. Some of them were listed on this thread. The drawings on the tread may be too small to be useful though. Unfortunately, it appears that the people who I emailed the drawings to did not post them on their web sites. If I can, I'll try to dig mine out and email them to you. - John

Hi John,
I've just followed the link you sent - the drawings look to be just what I'm looking for but as you say they are just too small to read. If its not too much trouble I would be most gratefull if you could help me out by emailing the drawings. I have a bentley manual and to be fair I haven't looked into it - i didn't think it would have this info in it, I'll have a look. Thanks for the info. Rich

Cheers Tim - i'll get my tape measure out tonight.
It's a daunting feeling - sat here at work wondering if your car needs pulling back into shape! Rich

Just looking at the picture - I can't quite make out the tops of the struts. Is it a view from the underside of the car?
- Thanks for the offer ED, the more measurements the better the understanding of the problem. Cheers Rich

Thanks Ed - those measurements should prove one way or another.
Your car looks a lot cleaner than mine around the suspension tops. The trick is going to be holding the tape straight (not letting it sag) to get a true figure. I'll have a look at mine tonight. Thanks again. Rich

Well - I finally got to measure the distance across the struts.
Mine too measures 98cm across the middle of the two strut threads - I'm starting to think it could just be a poor quallity wing causing the problem. Thanks for the help. Rich

Um, aren't the places that you are measuring the places that will move depending upon the alignment settings?? Wouldn't a better place to measure be from the inside top corner of the strut tower to the other side??
