What are you guys doing about....

Cup holders. It's the only creature comfort that I require in the car.

My current solution for my 20oz. 7-11 morning treat is to place it on top of the defroster indicator and lean it backwards against the heater control between the seats.

While this currently works fine for the 1/2 mile to the office I don't know what I will do in the summer time as the cup only fits with the lever in the full open position.

I really do not want to get one of those plastic things that slide into the window/door panel gap.

A more permanent solution, maybe something that slides out from under the dash would be preferable.

Has anybody got a soulution? Pics would be cool.

Thanks
Scott

Please take no offense but can't you drive a half mile with out a drink?

When I drive the 911 it is for pleasure i.e hitting some curves ect. Generally requires two hands on the wheel. I admit I don't use my 911 for daily transportation. I do not use the cup holder in my daily driver and I do not allow drinks in any of my cars.

I use the 911 to commute when I can't take the bus / train. When slogging through traffic for 90 minutes (San Jose to Berkeley at rush hour), I've sometimes wished for a cupholder too.

Didn't Pelican used to sell a metal one that slid out from under the dash?

For now, I set a bottle in the door pocket, pushed back against the armrest. Sometimes it falls forward, which prevents me from using a coffee cup of any sort. Perhaps a divider that prevents the cup from falling forward into the pocket would be a serviceable and discreet solution.

there are some drink holders being made that slide into the ashtray slot for vw bugs. might fit a 911?

i velcro pvc fittings to the carpet floor in the ski boats. i agree with osidak, no time for liquid refreshment in the p cars, but the truck is wall to wall spilt coffee. it matches the carpet.

I'll 2nd This

Since the new 911 is also now my daily driver, I would love to hear any working suggestions anyone has. I have looked at the normal places locally, but haven't seen anything that looks like it would work.

I just put my soda can in a soft can cozy and hold it between my legs. Maybe that would work for a small coffee.

On the tunnel, jammed between the seatbelt latch and parking brake. Works pretty well during city driving.

The problem with between the legs? All over the face during those "both feet in" moments...

Duct tape!

A roll of duct tape on the floor of the passenger side is a perfect cup holder.
1- It's just sticky enough to stay in place.
2- Its heavy enough to hold a very big cup around corners
3- Best of all, no one accuses you of having a cup holder!

they're not exactly inexpensive, but they are unobtrusive and they fold up when not in use. I installed one on each door after too many "hey, how come you have a cupholder and I don't?

Funny this has just come up. I just recently started with my own version of a cupholder. I just got one similar to the one on griots garage. I really don't like the idea of a cupholder on the door.

If you leave something in the door and close it you have a flying drink.

I made a small metal bracket to attach it to and found a place under the dash to use an existing screw to hold it. The bracket is hinged so that it folds up neatly under the dash out of sight.
It is mounted just to the right of the console under dash on the passenger side.

I just put it in last week and haven't got it totally finished yet.
The hinges are sprung so that it holds itself up under the dash but I just have to have a locking mechanism for when it is down or it swings back and forth a bit as I drive.

It really looks good and it is black so it is invisible once it is closed.
If anybody is interested I will try to post a pic.

Not only that, but God forbid you get some on you and walk into work without noticing......until you hear the SOB in the cubicle next to you walk by and say "dude, you mess your pants?"
