912E Question

My 912E has a hose fitting on the left side of the fan shroud that is not connected to anything. (see Picture)

Is this supposed to be connected to something?

Thanks.

I have a nipple on the fan shroud, but it does not extend past the compressor bracket as yours does. Mine is not blocked. I'll look through the Burgundy service manual (if I can remember where I stored it) over the next few days...

I can't think of anything (923/912E related) that might require this type of air flow with that dia hose...Perhaps a 914 or other type IV app?

Bob

Also, it appears that your wiring/hoses are clear of the EGR piping.
You probaby want to check this on a regular basis. Somehow these items seem to be attracted to heat sources which naturally results in melting the sheathing, housing, etc...I check this every few days when I check oil levels...

I believe this should lead to the charcoal filter/cannister located on the passenger side of the firewall. It provides a source of ambient temperature air to the air flow sensor. The air flow sensor uses the temperature, as well as quantity, of air to do it's black magic.

The attached pic shows the charcoal cannister. The hose leads from the left of the cannister to the outlet shown in your pic.
