Question Door Pocket Question - Please Help!

I just bought a set of original but used 1969 door pockets for my car.

Do the pockets attach to the door panel only or to the metal door skin under the door panel on a 69?

The screws I got with the pockets are machine screws so they were screwed into a threaded hole but they are short, 1/4" or 3/8" long so I don't see how they could reach the metal in back of the door panel.

There is one 1" long bolt on each pocket with a nut on it which has me stumped. It must go thru the door panel and metal skin but how do you screw on the nut?

Are there threaded female inserts in the 69 door panels??

Thanks for you help.

Ron,

I have the solid door pockets the run the entire length of the door. Can you post a pic of your pockets, to see if I can help out on your questions.

Are these the front (solid) or rear (flip out) pocket? both have a plastic hindge that is screwed to the metal door, you should find the small holes in your door bottom. On the front pocket, the front bolt screws into the metal door, the rear bolt (stud) is part of the pocket you just reach inside the door and run the nut on with a socket. Remember the front one should have a threaded hold in the door, no need to reach in there because you cant anyhow. If you need pics let me know.

Here is a drawing of the pockets from my Porsche shop manual.

I want to mount both the left & right front pockets first.

I only have the right side swing out pocket and need to find a left one.

Thanks for your help.

Craig's, thanks for you input.

I think I've got it figured out.
