wtb 912E muffler

I'm looking for a 912E muffler. Condition is not important as long as the heat exchanger to muffler body pipes/flanges are usable.

Thanks,
--John

I have a slighty battered muffler off my E, its a Bursh one. Quite useable really it just needs a new tailpipe welding on.

Problem is I'm in the UK

muffler

C. Clark. Thanks for the 912bbs tip. There are several mufflers listed, but they may have sold already.

eki912 and nige-912. I'm looking for the pipes that connect the heat exchangers to the muffler body and as much of the muffler body as is available. I am building a mock-up muffler for a muffler manufacturer in Wisconsin. He can supply stainless steel 912E mufflers for approximately $550 out the door.

Thanks,
--John

John,

Keep a watch on the 912bbs..................If the 912e's ever get the stainless steel mufflers that were order over 8 months go.........you should be able to find a good used one listed.

You might want to put a "wanted listing" on the 912bbs. Sometimes a 912er will have one just taking garage room....

Good luck, Bill

Like I said I have the whole muffler available what is in effect everything from the exit flange on the heat exhanger to the the tail pipe

so flanges pipework, silencer and tail pipe.

I already have a dual exit stainless system fitted to my 912e

I will be going back to the builder for a pair of SS heat exchangers ready for winter. This was hand built by a UK specialist Turbo Thomas

muffler

9-912-swt--

Thanks for the tip. I'm checking several of the older 912bbs adds out now. Most are gone or are Burst. I'm hoping to find a stock muffler.

Nige-912e--

Your car is very clean. Did the dual outlet exhaust make a noticeable power difference? Did you have to adjust your L-jet or are running carbs?

I have the same rims on my 77 traga. Do your ever rub while turning or when you're on bumpy roads?

PS. I'm still looking for a stock exhaust.

Stock mufflers are hard to find....

Alltough you might find those now , when the guys finally get the STEBRO ss mufflers.

And Jake Raby might have some Stebro SS ones left from his order.Stebro ones should be as close to stock as possible.

I received mine from Stebro just the other day. You can purchase one of these from Stebro direct. I'm not sure what they will charge, I paid about $800 for mine. I sold my original months ago, I'm sure there will be some old stock one's for sale soon but, I would save up and buy a stebro stainless.

I would be careful sayin you can buy one from Stebro, how do you know that have anymore in stock and not the ones made for Jake and the customers that paid 8 months? After watching the thread on the 912 site I wouldnt trust these clowns with anythin, the whole thing was a joke and to finally get the products 8 months late is crazy...

Papermaker is your buddy still going to build the SS mufflers? $550 sounds like a great deal

Yea it was crazy and I was very upset with the delay. They lied to me several times stating a "next week" delivery. From what I understand, they underestimated the costs involved with the construction of these mufflers. The tooling costs alone were $35,000, so I assume they will be eager to make some of this money back. If anybody does decide to go with a stebro muffler down the road I would make sure that they only give stebro 50% deposit. In spite of all the struggle and frustration, the quality of this ss muffler is unreal! It's simply beautiful, and really improves the value of my 912e.

Not sure about the power gains, I had major engine rebuild and swapped to carbs all at the same time so quantifying any improvement would be difficult. Sounds good and deep though and gets quite raspy when pushing hard. All the flanges are type 25 so gaskets are not a problem either.

7x16's on the rear with 205x55 tyres, used to rub slightly so I rolled the inner lips abit, doesn't rub at all now unless the tyre pressure is low

I have two of the Stebro units left. I had planned on stocking these, but after the stebro disaster, that won't be happening.. They are listed on my store site at www.type4store.com

All--

I've sent Jake contact info from the exhaust manufacturer who is willing to develop a stainless muffler for 912E's. It's up to Jake to determine if he wants to go forward with the manufacuturer. Meanwhile Jake has to wear his businessman's hat and sell the two mufflers he has. I think I remember Jake writing that he had Stebro modify their muffler before he'd stock them. I don't know if there was a fitment problem or if he asked for performance based modifications. Jake could you clear up what you asked Stebro to change (if there were performance mods could you outline the changes)?

I'm still looking for a stock 912E muffler!

Thanks,
--John

PS. Jake I've talked to you from time to time about type IVs and 912E's. I'm the A&P and Avionics guy with BV 107 - CH46 & Chinook experience from Columbia Helicopters.

I received the prototype muffler and fitted it to my 912E as well as dyno tuned it Vs a stock muffler and Vs the Bursch replacement.

Initially the tail pipe outlet was about 5 degrees off and the flanges that mount the muffler to the heaterboxes were flimsy and leaked severely.

Stebro did make these changes to the entire production run.

The system met my expectations in the performance category from day one, the dyno tests proved this.

John did send me the contact for the "other" manufacturer, and for that I am grateful. I have decided that all future systems will be made in house by my fabricator, as I have a thing for being able to control things infinately, I refuse to allow anything similar to the Stebro catastrophe happen again!
