912 Engine serial number
Hello
I can't find the serial number the normal spot? It says Made in Germany and looks original. See attached picture below. Any help would be great. The car is a 1968 and I hope the engine is the same. Thanks. HOjer ![]() Last edited by HOjer; 06-30-2008 at 07:35 PM.. |

Generally a factory replacement motor did not have a serial number. Also the rear motor mount is not correct for a 68. This one was used in the 65 and verily early And the dog house is for a 65-67 motor.
66. ![]() The 68 motor is very dirty. However, you can see what you are missing on your motor ![]() |

That has to do with the emissions for 68. It was required for 68 only. There was also a air pump on the driver's side which has been removed from this motor.
Also the stamps on the case will be 616/36 on the 68 and a very late case 616/39. It looks like you have the early small generator and that would mean that you had a early 68 motor. They went to a larger generator with the 616/39 motor or very late 616/36 motor. I should of added this in the original post. |
