A few 912 questions

I'm a new 912 owner, so I am still learning about the car. I have begun to compile a list of what I want to do with the car, but I'm really just coming up with a list of questions. One of the biggest questions I have is about my motor.
Here it is:

First off, what heating system do I have? In all of the pictures I've seen I can't find one with two heater hoses like mine. They don't look stock. What's the deal???

Also, where do I start with it? It runs well, but I want to service/improve it and get some more horsepower out of it. What are the first steps. I bought a bosch 050 and a pertronix ignitor, but I've been told not to use it. Should I? Why or why not?

I'm also interested in restoring the body/interior. I've made some good progress on the interior, made new rear seats, rear deck, and used POR 15 to treat the floorpan.
But there is some bad rust underneath:

This is the driver's side. What is this part? And how bad is this???

That's it for now. Any help would be great!

This looks like the jacking point where the jack slides into the body/chassis. Hard to tell from this photo, looks pretty mangled!

sgr60:

Your heater appears to be a European heater. Check the smuggler's box up front to see if it's a gas heater. I know very little about them, so you might ask on the 911 forum.
