Since the engine is coming out next week I'm going to repace the sound padding as it is in need of replacement. I'm not as concerned with sound detening as I am with looks. What are some good materials and how much do they cost? Also, how much material is needed? Thanks

Our host has what you need. I bought one a while back and it made a hugh difference. Looks good to. It is a must to have the engine out to replace it.

If you want to do the complete job you need two pieces, one does the back and the other must be cut to fit the sides. The sides are more difficult to do, I found a piece of foil works well for the forming, transferring that pattern to the material, and yes the engine must be out. Cabinet grade contact cement with a heat gun is the secret, works great. If you elect to get two check out Tweeks, much cheaper.......

Josh, you also might want to look at using Dynamat. It is much thinner (1/8") deadens sound just at well as the thicker sound pad, is easier to install, and looks better (in my opinion).

I just ordered the sound padding from Pelican. $71 with tax and S&H. Thanks for all the help!
Looks like the target date for the engine drop is Thursday, December 27. I'm picking up the transmission Monday (as well as a 36 hp VW motor!) as well as other misculaneous parts for the car. So whats involved in the engine drop: new transmission, lobro cv's, top end rebuild, engine cleaning, new sound padding, and new chrome exhaust tip ![]() |

If you're thinking of putting in Dynamat on the sides check out b-quiet.com. It's the same stuff just a lot cheaper. One caution though, I put three layers one the back on top, and it fell back down. I put some adhesive in there, rolled it back on and put in an aluminum strip to brace it and it's been fine. The sides haven't given me any problems. If the rest holds for awhile I'd like to put the factory foam mat on top of the other stuff. The b-quiet stuff cuts out mostly lows, and the foam mat would cut out highs.
