What year engine is this?

Hey eveyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows where to look, and could tell me what year engine these numbers came off of:

# 1284023 below the gen stand

# 105280 on the middle case

Thanks,
Andrew

Porsche Crest numbers.....

Andrew,
In Harry Pellow's book he has a section on year and numbers of engines. As luck would have it I can't find the damn thing at the moment. When I do I'll let you know. If you don't get the info first.
Chas.

HI,

In the back of Pellow's book, engine number # 1284023 below the gen stand, would have been manufactured in late 1967 or so. Pellow's book shows 1284080, closest to your number as made in 11/67. The "911 & 912 Restorer's Guide, pages 78 & 79 also shows that engine series to be a 1968 912 with emission control engines.

# 105280 on the middle case also shows up in Pellow's book but from an earlier engine, probably made somewhere around 2/67. This would make that piece from a 616/36 while the other number above is from a 616/39. Sounds like your case is not an original matched set.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Bill

Thanks guys, I recently found an extra engine case with those serial numbers. I just wanted to check them out, make sure it was the correct case, and see what I could find out about the case.
