Try Stoddard. I am sure they can help.

Duke:
Thanks I did contact them and they told me all Solex jets have been discontinued.

They have repair kits and a few other parts but no jets.

Thanks,

Ron: That is really surprising-I bought new jets from them just 3 years ago. Try Parts Heaven in Hayward, CA. They have a lot of used parts. Good luck, Duke. 69 912 coupe.

Greetings,

Use Mikuni jets. They can be purchased from a motorcycle performance shop. You will need N100.604. XXX for Mains and B42/55 XXX Air Correction Jets. XXX represents the jet size. I hope you know what you want for sizes since list price for these jets is $3.00 each. 180 air correction should work for most applications. Themains will depend on cam and displacement.

Regards, John Benton

Solex jets

Duke:

Received an e-mail from Parts Heaven. They do not carry or sell Solex jets.

Thanks for the help.

Hello again,

Here is the number for Sudco. (213) 728-5407.
They will have what you need, but you will have to be specific since they are motorcycle folks.
Is your engine fairly stock or modified? You do not have to answer if you know what jets you need.

Regards,
John Benton

Solex 40-PII-4 Carbs

John:
My 69 912 is stock from what I can tell. I bought it last July. What jets do you recommend for a stock set up?

I failed the exhaust emissions test here in Illinois, passed the CO, CO2, NOx but not the HC (Hydrocarbons) level. Mine was 1100 ppm vs. the states 900 ppm. Too much unburned fuel I guess. The test is done on a dynamometer.

The ignition timing was set at 5 degrees BTDC with my 050. New plugs, oil & filter change and had added Petronix breakerless ignition.

After the test I measured the accelerator pump output on both carbs as being 4x more than the .55cc per two strokes the shop manual calls for so I readjusted both carb pumps. Now I am looking at jet sizes.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Look to see what size mains you are running now. You probably have 125's. Go down to 115's and you should pass smog. It might run really bad in this lean state, but you can put it back where it was after the test.
Good luck, JMB

Ron,

When does a car become old enough to be exempt from Smog testing in Illinois ? Or isn't there a cut off in your state ?

Smile Cut Off Date

Don:
The cut off date for cars in Illinois is 1967 or before. They test your car every two years so this would be my last test. In 2004 it would be exempt at 35 years old.

If I had "Antique" plates (25 years old or older) I would be exempt now but limited on where I could drive the car, to parades, car shows etc., not what I want to do.

Thanks for asking.

I took the car to the local foreign car garage to have them "fine tune" the carbs so I can pass the test. Hope to get it back tonight and take the test again tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Ron D

Ron, Thanks for the info. From what I understand my 66 911 is exempt here in North Carolina. What I also find interesting is that depending on which county you are in down here , you may or may not be required to have the smog test. Of course guess which county I am in when it comes time to inspect my '86 Jeep.

I guess this is a good reason for me to keep my '66 911 !

I am told car parts stores sell additives that help cars pass the smog test. But I have yet to see them on the shelves.
