How high should my engine sit?

I am putting a Type 4 engine into my 912 and i need to make the mounting bracket fro the engine. However I need to know how high from the floor the engine should be. Get your tape measures out, anyone?

Thumbs up

I don't have your answer, but a measurement from a fixed point in your engine compartment, such as a straight edge across where the engine hanger is to the centerline of the crankshaft would be a more valid number, because everyones car doesn't always sit the the same as the next guys, tires, torsion bars, blah, blah.I'm going to be in the same boat soon on my 912,but I do have another car at home to measure from.If no one comes through before I can measure mine at home,I'll check then

I'll have to check mine as well. I have a dummy engine/trans case in there right now to mock up the rear hanger and engine tin. I can get you a measurement from the top of the bellhousing to the bottom of the firewall if that will help. I think that is a good measurement as any. Also, anyone with a stock car should be able to get this to you as well. I have this number somewhere, I need to find it. It's only a couple of inches.

From what I've found there isn't a whole lot of movement once the front mount is located. You get *some* up and down movement at the rear of the engine, but there is a point in the travel that just feels and looks right. I know this isn't very scientific, but that helps to confirm your measurements.

I'll see what I can find out when I get home. I'm working on tin right now. What fun. I think this is the hardest part of the whole stinkin' coversion!

Later,

G

Here is what I have for mine. I suppose it can vary but up to 1/2" in either direction, but I'm also using the bellhousing tin from the stock engine on this conversion, and that allows it to sit just right.

I hope this gives you a good reference point.

Later,

G
