Need a Duck Tail for Not Quite a Renegade!

Well my 912e 'Butzy' is almost ready for the rest of the rust remediation and the paint booth. (see my thread... 912E Newbie! How am I doin? )

I will of course do the original 912e engine compartment lid but I want to have the option of bolting on a Duck Tail lid as well!

I need advice on what will fit, where is the best place to get a hold of a Ducktail. Anything and everything re: Ducktails.

I see a bunch of sellers on ebay but don't really get a warm and fuzzy feeling with some of these offers.

Any and all comments and input will be greatly appreciated.

Paul

You will want a real factory Duck Tail and they will be very expensive. The after market ones do not have the metal frame that the original one do. Also the original will fit like your like your factory engine lid and will not warp. The after market will need some tweaking to fit.

Check with Gary Stratton (sonjay here on the bird) he makes them using the factory metal decklids. NONE nicer imho. He's made 2 for me and they're beautiful.

Check out this thread:

Best FG Ducktail?

We used a Getty and installed without any modifications. Was it a perfect fit, no but it was a good 95%+ and worked for our needs.

+1 for Getty: I started fitting one that came with a package deal (fender flares were GT Racing; no identifying marks on ducktail) and gave up when bondo reached 1/4" trying to match, without matching, contour below rear window. I bought a Getty that required very little work to match body, gaps very good.
