I want to replace my alternator
My alternator is making (at times) nasty noises. I think the bearings are shot. Voltage varies slightly. I have seen a rebuilt Remy alternator for $55. Any thoughts on this alternator? Anyone have one in their car? I have seen rebuilt Bosch ones for about $150.

No specific experiences with Remy, but I have read that a number of rebuilt alternators have a stud inside that is too long and contacts the rear cover, shorting the whole alternator completely. I forget if that kills the alt, but even if it doesn't it is something you really want to avoid.
Take the rear cover off and look for any large studs that might contact it. If you find one, shorten it with a grinder. Protect the rest of the alternator so you don't get cutting debris in it. --DD

always use bosch. The alternator is too hard to reach to take a chance on an inferior product
