Did you get the nut behind the bottom of the tranny flange? Not trying to be a jerk, but I think you could break through the glue easily with those tools.

I once saw written instructions about separating the crankcase, to the effect of--

"Remove all the case through-bolts. Then go back and find the ones you missed. No, really, there are. Found them? Good--now go back again and find the other ones you missed. Trust me. OK, now go back a third time, there is still one more you missed."

There are a couple that just love to hide. One back by the cam plug, which is covered by the flywheel when the engine is together, and one up front at the bottom of the motor. That one is usually covered with caked-on road grime.

Go back and look for more case through-bolts. After you're sure you found them all, go back and look some more...

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but if you're starting to build a 2.5 and you're having a hard time splitting the case, you gotta a looooooong road ahead. Buy Jake's video, he explains tearing an T-4 down piece by piece.

This is going to sound crude, but we used to always smack our cases apart. Once ALL the bolts are out, see the above very true post. Stuff rags in the piston holes and around the rods so they do not bang around. Grab the head studs on both sides of the case, lift the case about 8" from the concrete and smack it down a few times. Be sure you are absolutely flat on the concrete so you do not bust corners off the case. This jarring always loosened all the case goo that was used on the case halfes. If you are the least bit leerie about this, do not do it.

The case should come apart easily. If it does not you have left bolts in place. There is a single bolt behind the flywheel that is overloked, as wel as the one that is between the pushrod tubes, in the center of the case.

I see cases ruined becasue of one bolt.

My video does explain it directly.

Oh, rats! I forgot about the one in between the pushrod tubes!!

See, even in emails like this they're easy to overlook.

Ah, so a Sawsall is not the answer?

Ok, I'll leave the engine building to the engine builders.

If you have Jake's video or Tom Wilson's book, they both emphasize laying out and counting the case bolts. Until you have the full count, don't start opening the case. What are there? 24?, 27? It's a bunch.
