Porsche Crest Where does your left foot go in these things?

Ok, so now I've finally got my teener from the point of mice living inside the rusted Monza in the pole barn, through the topend rebuild, fixed that pathetic center tunnel problem ( clutch tube, accel cable, fuel lines) de-hillbillied the carb conversion, bought tires and I finally got it to the point where it's a reliable car to drive. You can't really drive 914's in the snow, regardless of what the "ski Porsche" ads in the 70's might depict, so I was thinking about waiting for a dry spell in the winter, when I can make a dash south on 35W for better weather and will thus be able to get some driving time in this winter, which brings up LONG TRIPS.
I've been trying it out for a couple of 50 mile or so highway drives, and I find the stock 73 2.0 basketweave seats bearable, but I'm really at a loss for what to do with my left foot. Pelican sells a "dead pedal" for 911's and I wondered if anyone had come up with a similar idea for the 914. Ideas?

The one intended for 911s works in the 914 as well.

Porsche Crest I like mine

Weltmeister sells a dead pedal/footrest that IMHO looks a bit nicer than the Pelican version This is the Pelican one.

The Weltmiester one looks less utilitarian.

I didn't notice much problems in my friends '73 while driving from LA to Boston. I just set my foot on the tire well next to the clutch or under my right leg during open road runs. That said, I will be buying the Weltmeister one from Pelican when I get around to it.

Where do you put your left foot? Usually into the fuse box when getting in or out :-)

Oh, yes! And Cibie has discontinued the fusebox cover! (the part
that you always crack or break when that happens)

Good night.... I thought I was the only one who sent 3-4 fuses flying whenever I got in the car.... these things are just not made for 6-foot+ drivers...

There is a picture of my homemade dead pedal in the article about my race car in the tech articles section. Mine is as big as my foot to help with the pucker factor on race starts! Get a piece of 0.125 aluminum and cut and bend and if you want drill some holes as I did. The pieces of aluminum (made two) cost about $5 or so. Good luck.

Thumbs up

I installed the Automotion dead pedal about 6 years ago. GREAT IDEA! I can "stand" on this thing for hours. Just remember to trim the excess bolts from inside the wheel well.

I really like the Automotion (that's where I bought it about 15 years ago) one. Just don't mount it up too high like a car I drove the other day. If you get the height correct your foot falls right on it.

It is Weltmeister and Wayne has said that he can get anything that Automotion-turned-PerfProd can get.

I take exception to the note that the 914 will not work in the snow. Drove my 1971 in snow for about 2 weeks in NY while my Honda was being fixed. I was running Yokohama AVS dbs, which actually have a snow rating!

Those tires presently reside on the "Blond".

Whoa - not just Stereo, but quadraphonic!

Hmmmm ? That is bizarre. I only posted this once!

[Note to those confused by the above--a glitch of some kind put about 10 copies of James' previous reply into the thread. I killed the extras. --DD]
