early window regulator

What do you recommend using for lubricant on the early window regulators? Should I clean them like in a bath of solvent or just add lube. They are work fine just figure there is 50 years of accumulated dust etc in them. I have a 71

The early regulators are cable-operated, so I would think about bicycle cable lube.

Hmm, the factory manual says "The cable control coil is coated with perlon flocking and is therefore oiled, not greased."
