'74 914 2.0 AAR question

Suspect AAR valve no good, so I have a question: Is the power source that heats the air on start up to activate the valve 6 volt or 12 volt or something else so I can test the valve on the bench? Thanks for your help.

12 volt but will also close if the valve itself is hot

Where does the AAR lead typically connect? Is there any reason I can't get the 12V from the No. 15 side of the ignition coil?

The AAR coil connects to a wire in the ignition harness that goes back to the relay board and connects to the fuel pump power circuit. The wire gets +12V any time the fuel pump is running.
