Timing Marks Again
When locating the timing marks on the impeller. What is the best way to view them. It seems that the TDC notch is on the side of the impeller towards the rear of the car. But, when shining the timing light, I practly need to be in the engint compartment to see them (and that ain't gonna happen).
Any suggestions - I'm planning on painting new marks on the front side of the impeller but the factory must have had a way to see them. |

Paint the entire fin next to the marks. I have a white fin for 0 and a orange fin for 32 deg. they aren't exact, but you wont set it to exactly 32 anyways...

Smoke and mirrors. (You can subtract the smoke if your 914 doesn't leak oil.
![]() So, you need one hand to hold the timing light. You need one to hold the mirror. You need one more to hold the throttle at 3500 RPM (for a 1.7 or 2.0 FI car, at least), and you need a final hand to actually turn the distributor body to set the timing. Ugh. I painted the fan blades. --DD
