Hey new 914 pals...I need some advice

Tis Daniel. Eversince yesterday i have been thinking about getting a 914 for a fun sports car that i can tinker with. I was talking with a friend really into the aircooled scene...and he knows someone selling a maroon 914 with a straight clean body and nice interior. It has a 2.4 4 cyl in it!?! Anyways...I was curious and told the guy if he would concider trading my old 944 with a beat up body...running well...and a 944 with a broken motor. Supposedly he was asking 3K...but i am not sure what they are worth. I was just imagining the possibilities and was wondering your guys input. Perhaps someone might wanna come check it out with me if the guy is into my idea. On another note...anyone wanna trade a 944 for a 914? hehe...Yet again...thanks for the weekend! Lets do it again...with more porsches...I think i can dig up some 944 guys if you guys are game.

a 914 is a little more spartan than a 944. depending on how old you are, i'd stick with what i know. don't mean that to be discouraging though. but just think, a 914 doesn't have A/C (or if it does, it was butchered by the dealer to install it). more modern electricals. probably just as good a supply of spares (maybe better). galvanized body!!!!!! motronic! no D-jet or L-jet. you can get to the motor with both hands at the same time. no battery acid spill on the suspension. at least 147 HP with NA compared to 95HP stock 2.0L D-jet. no manifold pressure sensor!!! should i go on? seriously, how much money do you have?

I'd keep the '44s if you like them at all... and pick up a cheap 914 project... 73+ if you can... but it's up to you really...

it doesn't sound like an unfair trade... but it's up to your preference...

if you want a trouble free car you can get in and drive and drive and never do anything to... don't get a 914... there's always something that can be done... but god it's a lot of fun!

I'm there to if you need another pair of eyes....eyes that have bought that rusty car I just know I can fix!

Oh...yeah...I don't have THAT one anymore...

Really, I dunno if I'd trade that '44 you were driving. Didn't seem all that bad...for a '44.

Hehe...no...my 951 will stay with me for a LONGGG time. She will still be my daily driver. The reason i want a 914 is exactly why most people don't. I have my 951 as a pretty reliable car(shoot...now its gunna bust a belt on me) and any other 944 just..well isn't as fun. If you guys had a pristine 914-6 in your driveway...would you wanna drive around your 914 that is slower...scarier...and not very nice anywhere? Basically I don't need any more 944s...haha...But i DO want a fun little 914 that I CAN work on without having to figure out why my electrical doodads all over a 944 ARN'T working. I want something simple and fun...a project that isn't impossible or a bummer to work on. I don't want A/C or any special luxury options...I don't want 1000 hp...(well...ok n/m *looks at the spare 951 turbo in the corner...hehe) I am gunna find out more about this car my friend has seen..and let you guys know. but yea...So the 951 would stay...the other 2 944's would go...and I don't know if this is a good idea...but i really want a car that DOESN'T have to pass smog. So that is my story...and i'd love for you guys to help me check it out if i get close. Thanks.

Daniel, HAHA! We got you now. Buy one, youll hate/love it. Definetly dont go in unprepared and alone. Looking at what Kev and Mike are driving you would have some valid input. There are always salvageable ones for sale in the $1500 area. As long as the body is straight, and you dont need a working ride right away then go for it.

I have a line on a 914 up in the Hysperia area (High Desert, on 15 going towards Vegas). I have no information on it, but could put you in touch.

A 914's got an insideous charm that is nothing like that of a 944. I wouldn't even compare the two cars, and it sounds like you're at peace with that too. Fun to drive, fun to tinker with, and relatively simple. I gots no regrets.

I've got a 2.4 ... S!! Not quite a hand grenade, but it's definitely explosive above 4000.

Alright, I have to admit I love driving my dads 951's, especially the track car. Its a whole different world, (what feels like) unlimited power, and crisp handling. Yes I do have to admit that I havent driven my 914 yet (haha, dont laugh, its on jacks) but with the rides I have taken in stock 914's, my 914 should be able to whip my dads 951 on the auto x corse if I get some sticky's, but he will easily cream me on the track. The cars are going to have the same racer personality.. Semi stiff suspension, (I will be able to out brake him with 911 brakes, hehehe) Full interior with a sweet sound system, and 5 point camlock simpson harness's with custom made seats (courtosy of yours truly) to hold me in place, 5 lug Polished fuch's with 225's in the back and 215's up front (maybe 205's, I dont know, right now its there are 225's) with custom rear fenders to allow for big meats for when I get some power to the engine. And im going back to stock FI.
I have a huge list of the cool stuff Im doing to my car, but this is an overview. I bought the car for 950 with 2 parts cars, and I have put bought 1300 in parts MAX, probably more like 900, but im running conservitively..

Whew!!!!
