Sway Bar Question - Did I do it right?
I just installed a Sway Bar on the front of my 914. I followed the instructions from the PP tech article and everything went smoothly.
However, the tech article called for a triangular part that is mounted on the inside of the body (under the gas tank). The stock sway bar that I installed only came with the triangular piece that mounts in the fender well (this it the piece that holds the bushing and is secured to the body using 3 bolts). 1) does the stock swaybar setup have the triangular reinforcing pieces on both the outside & the "inside" of the body? 2) should I get the Weltmeister reinforcing tabs and add this to my setup. My car is just a daily driver but I tend to drive it like I'm on the track. Any advice would be great................................Vern |

1) No, just on one side.. I think. *(it's so totally raining)
2) I dunno, I don't have those. M

You should have some type of support on the gas tank side on both sides. So, if you just drilled three holes and mounted the triangle mount to the steel, you potentially could rip a huge hole in the metal.

When I bought my sway bar I realised that the other triangle pieces had to be ordered seperately. It wasn't made clear to me in the catalog that they were seperately ordered from the sway bar kit. This sway bar is also for the 911 I think so it doesn't have everything needed for the 914.
Cheers, Elliot

Thanks Guys,
Needed or not, I will either buy or make the inside support bracket - it couldn't hurt. |

The article was written specifically for the aftermarket Weltmeister parts. Cars that left the factory equipped with sway-bars have three weld-nuts in the fender well already, and you can use those to hold the bushing retainer on.
If your car did not have the three weld-nuts in the fender well already, then what is holding the bushing retainer to the fender well? You drilled the three holes, and then threaded the bolts into what? If you have three nuts there, it's a bit of a pain to get a wrench on them to hold them. But it's doable. Probably a bit better to have that internal triangle piece. Even better to have that and to weld it to the fender well. I'm not sure what you mean by the "reinforcing tabs"... --DD

Thanks Dave!
What I meant by "reinforcing tabs" is what you are talking about with the Weltmeister internal trinagle. I ended up using 3 bolts with washers & nuts but I am going to add the weltmeister triangles next. Vern |
