running out of electrical problems
Here is a problem that has bugged me since I was able to get the car started. If I hook up the tach the car wont start. With all wire connected (Yes I checked if they were connected correctly) I turn the key and I loose all power and have to diconnect the battery for a few seconds to regain it. With the black/purple wire to the coil removed the car cranks but wont start. With the black/purple and red/white wire removed from the tach the car starts every time. I bought a new used tach and get the same results.

It sounds to me like you have a dead short somewhere. That is how I used to wire ignition kills. Ground out the distributor and it will never start. Check for ground on your wires.
