I just bought a new one and it looks like what you describe. It has three terminals on it, and has to be wired separate from the socket on the fuse board. I think you can name yourself anything you want in your profile as long as it's not too risque or obscene.

Pre 74 have a left & right indicator on the dash. 74 on takes a different flasher, if you install a 74 on flasher in a pre 73 both the right & left dash indicators will flash simultaneously. The pre 74 has a 4th pin on the flasher.

Mark

My car has a socket with four contacts. The p.o. had rigged up a flasher unit using only three of the four wires and which was not working right. I ordered a new one for a 74 914 and it was still a 3-term flasher which does not fit the factory socket. It seems to work fine, but I think the original had a second relay contact which used the bulb current for the coil, that way the indicator would not flash if the signal lamp was burned out. Do you know if this is correct? Are the original round flahers still available?

Guy,

I bought one with 4 pins at the local Auto Zone. It works but makes the left & right indicators on the Tach flash simultaneously. I don't think a 74 has separate right & left indicators on the dash so it may work in your car. You are welcome to it if you want to give it a try.

I ended up finding a used one for a 73 in Ebay. They are available new but I don't think that they are the original Hella unit.

You may be correct about the bulb current, the original is rated at 4 x 22 watts. The defective one that came with my car was much smaller & rated for less current.
