Cool Appearance Group Center Console

Hi Everybody,
New adventure:
I recently installed a center console in our '73-914-4 2.0 F.I.
Is it just me or does anybody else's right leg lean on the side of the console??? Honestly, it bugs me - I feel "crowded". I like the look... & needed a place to install temp & pres. guages so I bought it. What about you??? Anybody removed the console because it was just uncomfortable??? Where'd you put the guages?
Thanks,
Gary

I always remove them. It's hellishly unergonomechanical..

...ouch, that hurt.

Gauges... hmm.. I throw those gauges out with the consoles. I have never sold one, I didn't think they were worth anything until I found the internet!

I throw away the radio, n'tenn'a, speakers, console, and you know that lil tray with the flaky sponge in the middle? I throw that out too.

Don't leave anything in my car.

I find that the console gives added support when taking my favorite on ramp at 80

I agree, I lean my leg on it for support in hairpin turns at 80+ MPH. I love the ride.

...so o.k. it's not just me. But I still need a place to install the gauges. I'm not going to cut the dash - and I don't want to scab on some "after-thought". Now What? Options? Thanx

I like the looks of the console, but it definitely hogs up precious space and also makes it much tougher to work on certain items such as the clutch/accel/speedo cables, shifter, and underdash wiring.

I yanked the one in my current teener and sold it for obscene money to some furrin' guy

I don't care for them either. same deal here, size 9 shoe and really crowded if you wear anything more bulky then sneakers.

I've been driving a 73 with center console since April after 12 years of driving a 72 without the console. I like the console and found that big empty space in the 72 to be bothersome. I wear a size 11 and have never even noticed if my foot is touching anthing other than the pedal. I find it relaxing to be able to lean my leg against it.

I needed a place for some gud speakers. I made mine, put the speakers in it and like the availability of being able to use the console against my leg for support while AXing. When I made the console I shortened the back of it so it didn't go completely to the bottom so I have a 6" space in back of it. Gives room for your shoe if needed.

bruce.. I like the idea of the 6" gap in the back... I just put new carpet in mine and it really looks bare without a center console - I wear a size 12 shoe and have been worried about the console taking up too much space down there.

If you need this console to hold you in place on your favorite on-ramp, you ain't strapped in tight enough!!

A better toe room solution is to remove the connector at the front of the unit so that the two side come to a point. Yes less room for "STUFF" inthe console but allows for wider foot wear and freeer movement from accel to brake pedal....

I removed my console... too uncomfortable. I am 6' 2" and wear a size 11 shoe. I also ordered the console delet kit for my Boxster because it is even more uncomfortable than the 914 console.

Guages - We don't need no stinkin' guages. By the time you notice something is wrong - IT'S TO EFFIN' LATE! They do give off nice light at night though. Mine are red, white and blue - I is a true amerikanisky.

Uhhhhhhh - I didn't really have anything to say, but thought I would take up some space on this post to test Wayne's new server software and see if I could create a bug to report. Down Miles, cockroaches are pets in GA.

Good thing, because they hardly taste like chicken, and takes too many of the critters to make a meal.

What's with all the little feet? Seems like size 9 is popular, yet most guys say they are 6'2" and such, and I hear complaints about headroom..

What is wrong with us?

Sounds like you must have lived in California at some point in time if you have that kind of attitude. Why have it in your car if it is going to get stolen out of it anyway?! Right?

Little feet are perfect! Espically for those who are short. A size 7 1/2 foot looks beautiful on someone who is 5'3' with a nice (not gonna mention them here!) figure size.

Its not what is wrong with us, it is what is wrong with YOU!

Heh

Have you tried the early style console/map holder?

James,

The early one won't hold enough empty beer cans while Scott is doing his 80+ turns in a non-running car
