Porsche Crest Need engine help

Hey I have a very serious engine problem in my 76' 914. The engine seems to run fine besides a HUGE plume of white, smelly smoke that billows from everywhere when you try do drive it. It doesn't do it so bad when it's running parked. I heard it may be a bad inake gasket. Can anyone help me with this??

Sounds like a leak in the radiator.

This really sounds like oil leaking on the Heat Exchangers.

What does the smoke smell like? Gasoline? Burning oil?

Does the smoke come out of the tailpipe, or just come leaking out of the engine bay and under the car and everywhere?

The smoke comes from everywhere-the tailpip, the engine compartment, its hard to tell there's so much of it. There isn't a radiator and it doesn't seem to leak oil.

There isn't a radiator? I better check mine.....

There is probably an oil leak & it's leaking onto the heat exchangers. One way to find leaks is to first clean the engine really good with engine degreaser & water. Sometimes it's hard to find the true source of a leak when the engine is dirty.

an injector sticking?? Please explain further. Right before this happened a porsche repair shop that I had service and inspect it said that an injector wasn't in right and they fixed it.

Hey, 10 seconds before my fire happened, my car did the exact same thing.

10 seconds after my fire started, there was a very loud pop, then a swoosh sound, then a really ugly krackle...

Then the gearbox started doing it's thing.... WHEEEEE!

914 fires are like 10 colors, most beautiful!

If the smoke doesn't smell like gasoline, then it isn't gasoline.

Most likely it's caused by oil dripping down onto the heat exchangers. It seems like any oil that these engine leaks somehow manages to find its way onto the exhaust so it can smoke-smoke-smoke.

My #3 injector was stuck open and when the car was started it sprayed gasoline all of the time. I have gas comming out of the exhaust port and dripping off and smoking the exhaust.

Pull your injectors, it's easy, and check the spray if you think it's gasoline smoke. DISCONNECT the coil before you start.

Dave is right about the smell. It is VERY different then the normal oil burning smell 914's like to make

If it is gas DON'T drive the car get it fixed. From what I hear 914's like to burn

Best of luck
