installation of "modern a/c system
I dropped the "heavy coin" today and ordered a custom a/c system for my 914 out of a shop in Texas. After tying for a year to chase down a "complete" used system via pelicans classified and even e-bay I contacted European cooler car and ordered his system (after reading about it from a fellow techie on this site). It is a modern version of the dealer installed unit from the 70s but uses 1.5 hp to run system instaed of 14.5 and blows 16k btu vs the original 8k btu. No motor drop required...but system is $1800 (kit) so I hope it meets my expectations !. I plan to keep you readers informed of this product (and my opinion of its value ) as I have seen the interest sparked when ac systems appear for sale (even the beater units.) I'm sure I am not the only owner who left his car garaged on a nice summer day because the humidity over rode the enjoyment factor! I'll keep you all "posted"

Let us know some of the details, please!
I assume it uses the popular Sanden compressor? I'm curious about how the drive belt is routed, and where the drive pulley and compressor are located. Ditto the condensor. Hopefully this setup will be a lot cleaner than the dealer-installed ones which were really somewhat of a hack-job... --DD

Do you need to find a factory A/C system under-dash unit, or do they supply a control module and duct-work? I would think for 1800 it'd have it's own designed controls and ducts. Thanks for info, maybe we'll all be rollin in A/C 914s haha
