3D914, what are your motor's specs?

I know you have a 2.0 with the Web #73 cam and megasquirt but what is your compression ratio etc? Anything else that's not factory? Thanks.

Alfred,

Pistons are Euro - so higher compression. The valves are stock, but the ports have a special cut to them for improved flow. The throttle body is stock and has not been bored out as some like to do.

Let me know if you need any other details.

Regards,

Thanks, I appreciate it. Right now I basically want to get a "few" more hp out of my stock 2.0 without making irreversible changes to it and without spending too much money - things like adding an aftermarket cam and fuel injection. I need some good engine simulation software to play with all of the possibilities.

Alfred,

If you haven't already found it, I'm sure the WEBCAM site has the specs (lift, duration, etc) on their cams there. I've never tried to simulate an engine build ahead of time with software - sounds interesting!

Good luck

I want to build a motor like that, except mine will be a 2056... And I have thought about going a little wilder on the cam than the 73.... but then I am saying goodbye to stock fuel injection forever... i wish I know what the main limiting factor is on what cams you can run with megasquirt - where do you run out of adjustment first?

sorry for the ramble. just thinking out loud.

Jeff,

I don'y think there is a limit. They even run Turbos with MS.
You'll need to do some special filtering of the Manifold pressure to get a smooth idle with a radical cam, but other than that I think MS would work great!

Regards,

Gerard,

Did you modify your own cylinder heads or did you have someone do it for you? Also, did you calculate your compression ratio directly? I've been playing with my simulation software and I see that even Web's 73 cam needs a higher c/r than the stock 7.6:1. Btw, there are quite a few engine simulation software packages available to help you "design" a motor. Three of them are DynoSim , Engine Analyzer and a really sophisticated one called Wave v5 .

Alfred,

The only mods I recall for the heads (in addition to new valve seats all around) was the machining of the seats with a 3 or 5-angle cut - I forget which.

I'll be down at the shop that did the work tomorrow - I'll ask them.

Thanks for the tips on the software. When I get a free moment I'll take a look at them.

How is your Megasquirt system doing?

I haven't bought the Megasquirt parts yet. I realized that if I don't want to increase my compression ratio with either Euro pistons/cylinders or by machining my heads, the Web 73 won't give me any increase in hp and I'll probably lose some torque. So now that I'm keeping the stock cam I'm debating with myself whether to buy used d-jet parts or the MS. I'll probably end up buying both and the MS kit will sit on the shelf for a couple of years. Lol!
