Hi all,
I'm looking for an adapter that will work with my Central Machinery (read harbor freight...) engine stand. I've checked around and found some bench mounted VW Type 1,2,3 engine stands - and I could make that work - but none of of vw engine stands include type4... WTF? Is there something about a type 4 that causes it to be a red-headed-stepchild??? ![]() BTW: If there are adapters available, I'd be more interested in one that has more than 2 contact points. Like 3, or a machined collar or ohhhh yeah, a machined collar. Am I repeating myself? Dreamin'??? ![]() ![]() ![]() Duct tape? Thanx, Gary ![]()

It's deja vu all over again. I've heard good things about this one.

The Type I stands work on a Type IV. The weight of a "fully dressed"914 is only about 30 lbs more than that of a Type III engine, so if a stand will deal with one of the latter you should be fine.

A bellhousing off of a bus 091 trans is what you want.
4 contact points (but you can use only two if if makes you feel beter) ![]() full circle machined collar ( again, grind it in half to get it like the other ones) Starter mount (just ignore it) ---------------------------------------------------------- Toss the "L" shaped arms on your stand and bolt it to the flat part. Usually two of the bellhousing holes will line up with the flat side of the engine stand plate. Drill two more then bolt the bellhousing directly to the flat plate of the engine stand. Grind a hair off the inside bellhousing if needed to clear the flywheel Price 0-$50 I paid $50 but that was with taxes and shipping. I would guess $10 at a junkyard or post a request on some VW sites. Regards, Rich Hilgersom http://www.davesport.com/rally/mycar/mycar.htm Thats the 091 bellhousing (the dark bottom section) ![]() Last edited by Rich Hilgersom; 02-20-2004 at 08:18 AM.. |

Sorry. You could get the EMPI ceramic coated and raise the price. Plus, it will provide 10 more BHP in the engine you build
![]() Really through, I have a engine stand from the FLAPS and have never found a way to adapt the EMPI to the stand. It seems that a adapter sleeve would work. But for $15, how wrong can you go? L. McC |
