Jason,
Do you plan to seal the engine compartment? If you don't it will run hot. If you do, Then the louvers in the body are not large enough to supply air to the fan and the carbs... It will also run hot and possibly rich as the cooling fan robs air from the carbs. You will have to kick the deck lid open @ the top or run a convertible deck led with louvers or punch additional louvers in the decklid. I cut three large holes behind the tag to get more air to the engine. Just 2 cents worth. I bet it is fun!

we never run into restrictive engine bays and negative effects with TIVs in bugs....
The engine is so heavily finned that it uses the cooling air very efficiently.

The vents in a bug were designed for the cfm intake of a type one cooling fan and a single 32mm carb I just dont see....never mind.

My 66 beetle has ZERO vents in the decklid, and my 2613cc TIV cooled just fine with a DTM... That was 5 years before I bought the company.
Never seen an issue.. The engines ability to shed heat, has more to do with the equation than anything else... One given amount of airflow does alot more cooling if the heat is dissipated from the engine faster.. Not even in a Speedster replica do we see the issues. They have way less airflow than a beetle.

I'm going to run extended deck lid hinges starting tomorrow, after my first oil change and valve adjustment.
Plus I've got a buddy who's going to make me a titanium heat shield for the engine compartment, just because of his interest in the project. BTW Jake, thanks on the lifters! No problems at all up to this point...knock on wood!

So the 2613 uses no more CFM to pull @ 4000 rpms than a a stock carb...I am surprised that the vw engineers provide tha much head room in the air flow calculations...however, I can't argue with real world data.
