Storing top in trunk - how?
Dudes:
The weather here in WI was finally good enough for me to take the top off the 914 today - woohoo! Anyway, I'm having trouble getting it stowed in the rear trunk correctly. I'm pretty sure it goes in "top up" and with the rear of the top toward the rear of the car. I can see how those rubber thingys in the back hold the top in and the notch in the top is for the latching mechanism to clear. However, I'm confused about how (or if) the white plastic thingys in front are used. I tried to get the top's edge inside the "C" shaped plastic parts, but when I try to attach the rubber parts int he rear, it wants to pull out of the front plastic pieces. I can get the hood closed, but it's bulging out and it closes really tight. What am I missing here? Any help is greatly appreciated. A pic would be awesome! Thanks, Andy...

I always put the levers in the same folded position as they are supposed to be when the top is on the car (levers pointing away from each other). They seem to fit in the white plastic cups better.

Jim:
Thanks for the response. From what your telling me, it seems like I was trying to pu it in backwards! So, the levers set in the white cups... oh, that's what they're for!! Thanks again! Andy...

Hmm? The rear of the top goes toward the rear of the car. The arms he's referring to are the ones that hold the front of the roof to the windshield frame.
Sounds like you already had the right idea on where it all goes... --DD

Sorry if I confused ya.
Dave is right, keep the top in the same orientation...rear of top to rear of trunk. I was talking about the "front levers". The two front levers should point away from each other. The same as they do when the top in on and folded under the sun visors. Clear as mud?? Jim |

The white holders (not the cups) should not be seen when top is stowed correctly. They do not hold the top by it's top surface, but buy the lip that fits into the windshield frame.

Thanks again guys.
I'm sorry I wasted so much time on this...I guess I had a brain fart. Even though I was *saying* I had the front of the top towards the front of the car, I actually had it reversed... (saying one thing and doing another) I think the notch in the front had me thinking it was to clear the hood locking mechanism. I was wondering what those white cups were for! - DUH! Again, sorry for wasting all the time. Andy...

![]() Ever since I installed some new side targa seals I have been having the trunk lid rub the top of my targa when in the trunk. Any idea on how to fix this? Washers on the trunk mounts? Thanks.

That's interesting. I'll look at mine tonight but I didn't think the side seals rested on anything when stored.
Aren't those suckers a joy to install ![]() ![]() I wish you could install the trunk upside down so you could avoid getting scratches on the top. Seems like VW/Prosche designed it with 0.5mm's of clearance ![]() Cheers Kerry

This has actually been helpful to me too. I had always used the cups as a beverage holder. They did seem inconvenient given their location, but I assumed Porsche had their reasons.
