bad clutch cable
Irony is talking about clutch cables going out at the lastest windy city 914 breakfast and me saying, "Mine hasn't gone out yet" only to have it go out 7 hours later while delivering pizzas
How do I replace the cable? I can see how it attaches on the transmission side but I'm not sure how to get it from the pedal side. Help??? Thanks Adam

Do you have a center console?
The reason I ask, is because it will be easier to work on if the center console is removed. One good tip I can give you... Use the broken cable to pull the new cable through the tunnel. That will minimize the chances of the new cable being routed around, and snagging on things like fuel lines and the accel cable. Ed Last edited by WOODPIE; 06-14-2004 at 11:36 PM.. |

Nope, no center console. As far as the cable, I was just going to duct tape them together at the end so when I pull the old one out the new one goes in.
But How do I get to the pedal side? Thanks Adam

Pull up the carpet over the center tunnel. Pull out the floorboard. You'll find the clutch cable (and throttle cable) over at the right side of the pedal cluster.
Look in Haynes, it has pretty decent instructions. I was able to pull the old cable out and push the new one in from the engine bay side, without taping the new and old ones together. Your mileage may vary. Triple-check to make sure you don't get the throttle and clutch cables wound around each other. Sometimes there is a clearance problem threading the metal end of the cable through the tunnel. If so, you can lightly grind the corners of the end (right by where the cable goes, so be careful!) to provide the clearance. It is usually not necessary to actually shorten that metal end, unless someone has done a real hack-job on the clutch tube. --DD
