another dumb question...

Ok, I admit, I don't know what it does or where it goes. Does someone else know? It is on the driver's side. The plug is just a plastic hex attached to a piece of hose. It covers a metal tube that looks like it is going into the engine. I never noticed it until I decided to try and get SOME of the sludge out of the engine compartment.

Thanks!

Head vent ports, one on each side ... it's how pressure build-up in the heads is vented.

Both are normally connected to a breather box, along with a drain-back line connected to the (removed) PCV valve opening on the oil filler tower, on an engine converted to carbs.

And you wonder where all that sludge is coming from ...

Thanks Rouser!

Does anyone have a picture handy of what a proper Carb conversion looks like? I guess I need details of the specific connections that should be made. I feel as if the previous owner might have skipped over some steps when they switched to carbs.

Well, I finally got a chance to check out what you guys have told be and here are the results. My engine doesn't seem to be hooked up like anyone else's. So, I have to ask, is this a reasonable alternative method or should I replumb it. I ask the question because I have been having a lot of oil leaking problems and am wondering if the plumbing could have something to do with it. Let me tell you how my system is put together.

1. I do NOT have (2) vent port tubes as was indicated earlier

2. I have a hose that connects the valve covers two each other and nothing else

3. My breather hose goes straight to the oil catch and nothing else.

4. I have a hose hanging out in space that looks like it is from the gas tank (sounds real safe don't it)

Does this make sense to anyone? I'd like to be able to take the car for a trip this weekend so I was hoping to correct the issues soon.

Thanks!

One more question, the PCV valve, do you see one in any of the pictures? I don't know exactly what it looks like or where it should go. Though I'm told it is important to have.
