Where to get heads done?
I have a friend who wants to get his heads re-done. I told him I would ask around since he doesn't have a computer. So who should I recommend? I remember reading about a shop that fixes them so the seats don't come loose.

There's also Len Hoffman. Here's his under construction web site with his email address. He also posts on the Type 4rum . Fat Performance also does machine work.

Also, there's Headflow Masters in Vista, CA. By far I think that Len does the best headwork, but if you're looking for something like a stock rebuild, rimco does great work.

FAT Performance sends their "regular" head-work over to Rimco. FAT will port and flow them (Rimco will not), but evidently they use Rimco for standard rebuilding type stuff.

Len Hoffman, for detailed great work... He is my head porter for extreme jobs and teams up with me on R&D..
Adrian at Headflow for stock rebuilds and medium performance... His work is great as well but not as detail oriented... These are the ONLY two individuals that have ever impressed me with their abilities with a TIV head.

Headflow? ...I googled this but couldn't find out where this shop is. I'm looking for a quality stock rebuilder.

Cool, thanks for all the help guys I'll let him know. I'll probably send out the heads on the van I'm working on here soon as well. So how do they set the valve seats so they don't come loose?

I also have a set of 2.0 heads that dropped a valve seat on a low
mileage motor. I sold a guy my 1.7 and he gave me the whole 2.0 as part trade. I know it is low mileage cause I remember when he had it re-built. Anyways the cylinders still look good but the pistons and heads got mashed! What happened is one dropped and somehow traveled across the intake and got into the other side. I'll try and post some pictures later. Anyways without pics can the heads be re-worked? I figured if anything aside from the pistons and heads the bottom end is still good. |

Not true.....unfortunately..... If a piece of the valve got mashed hard enough and put enough pressure against the piston, it could of bent a con rod or even the crank..

Remember, with enough time and money and work, anything can be repaired... The question is, is it worth it? You can buy brand-new castings of Type IV heads (not the 2.0 914 ones, sadly!) for something near $300 each, though they do tend to need machining.
