Question about Fuchs Polishing & Painting
I've got a question about polishing Fuchs Wheels.
I just picked up a very nice set of Fuchs - no scratches or curb rash. They look good as is but I want to get them polished to look brand new & perfect. I plan to have a shop do the polishing and then I will paint the insets myself with wurth silver. My question: When I paint the insets, I'm assuming that they normaly get clear-coated at the same time. Is it normal to also clear coat the polished sections too or just the silver painted sections. Also, what's the norm for the inside of the wheel. I was either going to paint silver or just clear coat after they are brought back to perfectly clean alum. Any advice from the experts would be great..................Vern |

Urethane clearcoat will hold up for awhile on the bare aluminum but after a few years it will likely lose its appearance. If just a weekend car and garaged most the time it'll likely last longer. Also cleaning the wheels just like you would the body would help - use no abrasive cleaners. If you use spray can clears they wont hold up as long since it's probably lacquer or some kind of acrylic but not a two-part urethane. Just my thoughts but others may have better advice. |

BTW, if you are trying for a stock look then do not paint the wheels. The recessed areas had a somewhat milky finish in the anodizing itself, and were not painted.
If you want to paint them silver, it should look pretty nice, though. Kinda subtle... --DD

Not really. They are in OK shape. If those you have purchased are that nice you should sell 'em to a CW and pick up scratched ones to polish, though. I prefer the anodized finish,and I dunno if anyone can redo that.....

If you are going to have a shop do the polishing, ship them to Al Reed, I just got my Fuchs back from him and they turned out incredible. Check out toward the bottom of the page. Price was very reasonable and a great guy.
Al Reed does it again!!!

I did a set (not quite stock appearance) bout wore my finners to the bone.
 Next time I needed a set done i dropped em off at Al Reed's.

Worked on polishing a wheel for 8 hrs and still didn't have it half done. I took them to a shop in Atlanta and they polished them for $40 a wheel and finished in 3 days. Best $160 I've spent on my 914 yet

Where In Atlanta?
I'm in NC, and have been looking for a good, reasonably priced East Coast wheel polisher for my set of 4-bolt Fuchs. Would appreciate the name and telephone number if you have it.
