turbo source

Does anyone know of a cheap plentiful source of turbos, intercoolers and throttle bodies sized for use on 1 litre engines? Im thinking twin turbo. I know of the chevysprint/suzukiswift/pontiacfirefly. Anyone know others?
I realize that this is a spectacularly bad idea, but engineering school is hard and I want to do atleast one enjoyable thing this year.Yes, I find spectacular mistakes enjoyable(for a while), ask anyone. Anyways back to physics.

73,2.0L with 1.8litre based carbed, cammed and (most importantly) bored engine.

Putting a turbo on a 914 is not a bad idea at all. Trying to put two small ones may be.
I can give you a list of all the reasons why you should use a single instead of a twin turbo set up, but its your car. Good luck.

Besides cost and conceptual simplicity, why would a single turbo be better?

because of the firing order of the type IV.. i'm guessing want to run two turbos because it's easier to run one turbo on each side?one for cyl 1,2.. and one for cyl. 3,4?.. you would essentially end up with bang-bang-nothing-nothing on each turbo.. there's the chance that if you get lucky, the bursts will compliment each other, but most likely not though.. single turbo's easy.. even the piping's easy.. figuring out how to keep the motor from blowing up at higher boost is the hard part.. delivering fuel, temp maintanance, etc..

check on the rennlist archieves, there's LOTS of info on turbo ideas.. there's probably a bunch on this site..

hey jeff, speaking of cooling, what are you planning to run for an oil cooler setup? I won't be doing a turbo for now but I still am concerned about keeping her temps down...

Would it help to connect cylinders 1,3 and 4,2 to each turbo? At least then the exhaust pulses would steady (pulse,---,pulse,---)

On the subject of turbos, has anyone found a possible location for an intercooler?

"You can't do that." (Sound familiar, Sammy AKA Turbo-Waterboy?)

You might be able to get things a bit more even if you paired up the front cylinders and the rear cylinders, as roadtrp suggested. Plumbing looks to be a PITA that way, though.

I've heard of intercoolers being in the rear trunk. I'm not sure where Ed V is going to put his. http://www.rennlist.com/edvturbo (Yes, I know--but there are real pictures of Ed's turbo setup as well!)

Chris,
i already have an external oil cooler in the front trunk.. it was just getting air PIPED to it from the fog light grill.. the new setup it going to include an actual gapping mouth to suck in air.. even with the oil cooler in the box, and no outlet for the air, i was having a hard time getting the temp above 200.. the turbo will increase temp, but i'm thinking the front mount oil cooler will help..

the IC.. i've backed out of the trunk idea because there's just not enough room. i was out in the garage yesterday looking at the turbo in the engine bay (the more of the piping done, looking more like a turbo setup now).. and i'm going to stick to the original idea of putting the IC on the other side of the engine bay (driver side).. with a fan under it to suck air through.

need a dig cam.. and i'll start taking pictures..

Anything can be done if you throw money and time at it.
That doesn't mean it is the right way to do it.
Why do you want to run twin turbos? Are you after more performance or just bragging rights?
I really doubt you will gain any advantage with twin turbos over a correcly sized single turbo.
If all you care about is the name plate, go ahead.
I am not tryng to discourage you at all, I am just trying to help you avoid doing all the research I did.
How much boost do you plan to run, and when do you plan for it to kick in? Have you done your homework, or are you just still in the dreaming stage?

I'm in the dreaming stage(doesn't seem uncommon with 914 owners). I was thinking that a twin turbo would make the plumbing simpler(shorter) but I have since convinced myself (with 3d modelling) otherwise. I'll just wait until I have the money for a six. Should probably fix all the broken things before I start breaking new things anyways.
