No Spark From Coil

My ignition coil will not spark. Tried main lead wire to ground test no spark when the engine was cranked. I am running a crane x700
ignition and bosch blue coil. I have tried using new coil and previous coil which worked when I parked the car two weeks ago. I have the crane wired per instructions from factory. The coil has the black/red wire to the positive and black/purple wire to the neg. Still no spark. The only prob I can possible forsee is that my battery seems a little weak. It will turn engine over but needs a jump sometimes. Will a weak battery affect ignition coil?

My ancient XR700 really hates low battery voltage. I'm not sure if it would simply not spark at all, but when the alternator went out (or the voltage regulator), the engine started sputtering after I had driven only on the battery for a while. Newer XR700s may be more robust, though.

Try running a wire from the (-) terminal of the coil that you can ground. Use insulated-handled pliers to hold the wire. Switch the ignition on, and quickly touch the wire to ground and remove it again a couple of times. If you get a spark, then the problem would probably be in the Crane. If not, then the problem is probably not in the Crane.
